The Research Cooperative FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

    Question

  • Answer
  • Who can use this site?

Any person, company or group that can provide an editing service, or that requires an editing service. The Research Cooperative encourages offers from professional editors, experienced editors, and learners. Experienced editors include research writers with well-developed skills at editing work in a specialist field, and retired researchers/scientists who may be seeking extra income or who wish to volunteer as a service to help younger researchers/scientists. Learners may be graduate and post-graduate students who have some confidence already with their own writing skills, and would like to help other research students or established researchers who cannot afford professional services. In general learners should be willing to do at least some volunteer work, in order to gain experience - for their own education and also so that they can justify charging fees in the future. Volunteer service is the best way to establish trust, develop skills, and build a personal academic network.

  • Can students use this site?

Yes - this site is ideal for university students or students in any area of tertiary education. The Research Cooperative does not wish to encourage cheating, when assignments are specifically intended to test individual skills. Such cheating is a disservice to everyone, including the cheater. It may achieve a short-term goal but the end result will be a loss, e.g. placement in a position that brings no joy to the cheater or cheated. The Research Cooperative does encourage students to begin learning how to cooperate in research and research writing, and a key part of this is having honesty. In research publications, the efforts of editors and translators should always be acknowledged in ways that help to clarify the author's own contributions.
