"Other" offers and requests - for what?
These forums allow offers and request to be made with regard to any aspect of academic research writing not covered by the forums for editing, translation, and proofreading. Scientific illustrators and authors can offer or seek help with illustration here (see also our weblinks, via main menu).
Also, it is often difficult for journal editors and book publishers to find suitable people to judge papes that have been submitted for publication. Researchers and book or journal editors (or publishers) can use the forums to contact each other to carry out the peer review of manuscripts before they are published. Many book publishers and journals use anonymous reviewers (also known as anonymous referees) to check the academic value and integrity of manuscripts that have been submitted. Such reviewers often offer editorial comments that are useful for authors, but the essential job of this kind of reviewer is different from that of an editor.
These forums can also be used by individuals and by companies, or other organisations, to seek or advertise writing-related jobs (e.g. as an associated editor in a company that offers academic editing services).
If the forum for "Other requests " is used to find a reviewer, this request should be made long before any actual work is to be carried out, and with no public reference to a specific author or manuscript. Anyone can read the forums, so please follow this advice. In general, it is better for anonymous reviewers to remain anonymous as far as the author of a particular manuscript is concerned, and this is also better for the reviewers.
Some book or journal publishers may wish reviewers to be known to the author. Even in these cases, please be considerate when using these forums. It may be good for the author to know who has reviewed their manuscript, but authors and reviewers have a right to privacy with respect to the public in general. The general rule, therefore, is to avoid giving any information that might reveal connections between specific authors, reviewers, and manuscripts.
